a news discovery tool...
politicoTracker is a news discovery tool designed for the specific purpose of finding news articles about particular people - around 8000 US Federal, State, and local elected officials and appointees.
Using powerful object-based meta-data technology, politicoTracker news results are not only highly targeted and relevant, they can be easily cross-searched against a variety of other news "objects", be they other people, companies or government entities, or topics of interest.
This ability to construct accurate, instantaneous groupings of news articles can bring to light "hidden" relationships you may not have been aware of - it is the essence of news discovery.
politicoTracker is available through Apple's App Store for your iPhone or iPod Touch, and comes pre-loaded with the full politicos database. Your searches are conducted real-time via the device's internet connection, so you always get the latest results.
a different kind of search...
How is politicoTracker different from traditional news searches and aggregators? Traditional searches find articles about people by merely looking at the letters in their name. You get plenty of results that way, and that's ok if you don't mind combing through results about other people with similar names.
Those searches are also adequate if you're not too concerned with connecting a person to other topics of interest. But what if you want to know what someone has been up to as it relates to current events or geographic regions, or even which government agencies he's been active with?
With over 200 government agencies (for example), it would take you forever to search for your politico against each and every one of them, and searching against "government agency" clearly won't work. You can try a few agencies you think might be relevant, but that's not how discoveries are made. Real discovery comes from finding things you would not have known to look for.
Traditional search engines force you to know (or guess) what you're looking for before you start your search. Do you always know exactly what to type in that search box? In contrast, politicoTracker's advanced meta-data categorizations have already mapped out the deep unseen relationships, so you can quickly find what you need to know, before you knew to look for it. This is a significant advancement in search technology, now publicly available to you in the palm of your hand.
practical example...
Say, for example, you live in North Carolina and want to know what Senator Harry Brown, North Carolina General Assembly (Rep) has been up to. If you use a traditional search engine, your results might include news about people like Catherine Brown, who advised Senator Clinton on domestic policy, and Indiana State Representative Charlie Brown (D-District 3). You might be faced with page after page of irrelevant links, and wading through all that fluff takes time, a lot of time. Sure, you can reformulate the search query in an attempt to narrow down the results, but that's hit or miss and can lead you down yet another time sink. Don't you have better things to do?
In contrast, using politicoTracker you would find highly relevant articles in just a few seconds. You would use the list filter on the main screen to quickly find Senator Harry Brown, then just tap on his name. On the next screen you would see headlines of articles that mention this NC Senator (and not Catherine Brown or Charlie Brown). No wading through "almost relevant" results - each article presented will mention your target politico in some way.
Now the real fun begins. While viewing the results, you can simply tap the "Government Agencies" button, and instantly you would see which of the over 200 agencies have been mentioned in news reports about Senator Brown. The agencies at the top of the list will have a larger degree of cross-correlation, and very likely everyone will already know about those relationships. However, as you scroll down the list, you may very well be surprised at what your Senator has been involving himself with.
a global reach...
Leveraging Llesiant technology, politicoTracker gives you access to over 25,000 publications from around the globe - including more than 11,000 State and Federal Government News Sources.
Each content source, from the New York Times to the Smallsville Gazette, has its particular perspective and scope. But to Llesiant's meta-data processing engines they all look the same, as all their articles are equally sliced and diced - examined and dissected - and their constituent parts categorized and weighted for relevancy - all to allow you to instantly cross-search against topics of interest to you.
When perusing your search results, you may find yourself visiting the web sites of specialty or local news sites - places you would have never thought to look for your politico. Such is the wonder of the internet, and the power of politicoTracker.
